Luna, in brief
Nobody has ever needed to point Luna out across a crowded bar. The hair does it for her, long and a dark auburn red, and the rest follows: 171 cm, a curvy figure, brown eyes both direct and warm. She dresses boldly, emerald silk cut like a column or a sharp tuxedo jacket, with a red lip she never checks in a mirror. Heads turn; she long ago stopped noticing.
Bold and independent, she knows her own mind and enjoys hearing yours, particularly when it differs. Early twenties. Her English has an easy, confident rhythm. Wine is the serious passion, properly studied; she tastes blind and names the grape with irritating accuracy, and her tasting notes live in a small black notebook she will read from, if pressed, including the unkind entries. Photography is her second way of looking at the world, and theatre, new writing above all, is where she spends the evenings she keeps for herself.
The place she loves most in Mayfair is Hedonism Wines on Davies Street, a shop so extraordinary it feels like a museum, bottles climbing towards the ceiling and a chandelier made of glasses. She likes to start there, choosing a bottle for dinner with the staff's help, then carrying it to a nearby restaurant that welcomes corkage. The whole night then feels like her discovery, and in a sense it is. The shop staff know her by her first name and by her dislike of heavily oaked Chardonnay.
She lives in Mayfair, a stroll from most W1 hotels, and gives her evenings Monday to Thursday. The rooms she knows are on the Mayfair page; Cressida confirms her through booking.

Luna, after dark
Luna likes to do the choosing. She meets you on Davies Street among the racks and asks three questions about what you enjoy before recommending anything. The bottle she picks will surprise you, and it will be right. Dinner is somewhere she knows, where the sommelier greets her by name and the talk turns quickly from wine to theatre to a photograph she took last week of a doorway in Shepherd Market. She is opinionated but never overbearing, and she loves an argument conducted in good humour. If a new play is worth seeing she will know, and an opinion ready on whoever wrote it. The evening ends with a final glass and her verdict on the bottle, delivered with a smile.
Luna answers
None are overrated, only overpriced. Buy from the neighbour of a famous village and you drink better for half the money. The label is famous; the vineyard next door is simply quieter.
They are the most honest part of a building. You can tell exactly who lives behind one, and whether they want visitors. Mayfair has the best in London, polished brass and all.
New, always. I would rather be disappointed by something brave than comforted by something safe.
